Khot Panyanouvong was convicted by a jury for the first-degree murder of Choi Ian Saeteurn.
On January 15, 2015, Panyanouvong was arrested for a parole violation and resisting arrest. Panyanouvong was in custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail and shared a cell with 68-year-old Choi Ian Saeteurn, who was arrested for a probation violation. On January 16, 2015, Panyanouvong beat Saeteurn to death while the two were in their cell.
Panyanouvong has a prior 2005 strike conviction for first-degree burglary and faces a maximum potential sentence of 55 years to life in prison. Sentencing is set for October 21, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. in Department 25 before the Honorable Robert Twiss.
