Former After School Program Employee Convicted of Child Molest

DATE:  September 16, 2016

CASE:  Joshua Vasquez (Case # 15F07111)

PROSECUTOR:  Deputy District Attorney Nancy Cochrane, Special Assault & Child Abuse Unit

Joshua Vasquez pled guilty to 6 counts of committing lewd acts upon a child involving six separate victims.

Vasquez was employed by the Sacramento City Unified School District in an after school program, where he developed friendships with all of the victims.  The victims ranged in age from 7 to 13 years old.   While on school grounds, Vasquez took the children into his classroom, locked the door, and blindfolded them while he played different “games” with them.  The games included the “cool whip,” juice,” and “treasure chest” game, which were all designed to have the children touch Vasquez’s genitals in a number of ways.  Vasquez recorded these acts of lewd and lascivious conduct with the children.

Vasquez will be sentenced to 150 years to life in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for October 28, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. in Department 11 by the Honorable Trena Burger-Plavan.
