CASE: Sandy George, Kevin Moreno, Michael Moreno & Peaches Moreno
PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney William Satchell, Homicide Unit
The Honorable Michael Savage sentenced Sandy George, Kevin Moreno, Michael Moreno and Peaches Moreno to life in prison without the possibility of parole. On May 25, 2016, a jury convicted the defendants of first-degree murder. The jury also found true the special circumstance that the murder was committed during the commission of a burglary.
In November 2014, Sandy George befriended 77-year-old Leo Curry. She convinced Mr. Curry to allow her, along with her daughter Peaches Moreno and two of her younger children, to stay in his home by telling him they were homeless. Once inside the home, Peaches Moreno and George began coordinating the theft of items from Mr. Curry’s residence. George’s husband, Michael Moreno, and her son, Kevin Moreno, began pawning the stolen items. On November 15, 2014, at least one of the defendants beat Mr. Curry to death in his home and hid his body in the garage. The defendants then sold more of Mr. Curry’s property, including his vehicle. The defendants remained in Mr. Curry’s residence for two days after killing him. They attempted to open a large safe while at the house, but were unsuccessful.
