Defendants Sentenced for Murdering Carmichael Man

PROSECUTOR:  Deputy District Attorney Thien Ho, Homicide Unit

The Honorable Greta Curtis Fall sentenced Christopher Bernal and Jacob Fisher to 26 years to life in prison.  On June 3, 2015, a jury convicted Bernal and Fisher of first-degree murder.  The jury also found true that both defendants were armed with a firearm during the commission of the offense.

On January 18, 2014, the defendants went to the Sienna Square Apartments in Carmichael. Upon finding Justin Gonzales in the apartment’s courtyard, they beat him to the ground and shot him in the back of the neck. The defendants had prior conflicts with the victim.
