Defendant Convicted for Burning Puppy Alive

DATE:  March 3, 2016

CASE:  Willie Bee Turner

PROSECUTOR:  Deputy District Attorney Hilary Bagley

Willie Bee Turner was convicted by jury on felony charges of malicious killing of an animal, animal abuse, and two counts of arson.

On January 21, 2015, Turner was visiting friends in their apartment on Marconi Avenue in the Arden-Arcade area of Sacramento.  He had arrived from Oakland a few days before.

On the evening of January 20, 2015, Turner became enraged after his 8-week-old female Chihuahua-mix puppy defecated in the friend’s apartment.  It became apparent the young puppy had worms.

Turner told the animal she had “betrayed” him and began excessive discipline.  The puppy was soon seen limping badly, and Turner was observed dousing the animal with a bleach cleanser.  Witnesses retrieved the puppy and placed it in a neighbor’s dog carrier.  Within moments, Turner walked off with the puppy in the carrier.  He walked across the street on Becerra Way, where he ignited the bedding and puppy in the carrier.  Testimony from a county veterinarian established the puppy had been alive before being burned to death by Turner.

Turner faces a sentence of 4 years, 4 months in prison.  Sentencing is set for April 15, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. in Department 34 before the Honorable Lawrence Brown.
