CASE: Joseph Zeno (Case #15F02799)
PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Monica Robinson, Special Assault & Child Abuse Unit
Joseph Zeno was convicted by a jury of child abuse. The jury also found true the allegation that Zeno personally inflicted great bodily injury on a child under the age of 5.
On the morning of October 17, 2014, Zeno was alone with the 2-year-old victim. The victim’s mother later noticed a large blister on the bottom of the victim’s foot. The victim was treated at Shriners Hospital for second-degree burns covering the bottom of her foot. It was found that the only item that could have caused the burn was a hot frying pan. Zeno denied injuring the child, but admitted he had a form of discipline called “Hot Feet,” where he would smack the bottom of a child’s foot with his hand or hanger.
Zeno faces a maximum potential sentence of 12 years in prison. Sentencing is set for December 2, 2016, in Department 15 before the Honorable Kevin McCormick.
