Jail Inmate Sentenced for Murdering Cellmate

PROSECUTOR:  Deputy District Attorney Caroline Park, Homicide Unit

The Honorable Robert Twiss sentenced Khot Panyanouvong to 55 years to life in prison.  On September 20, 2016, a jury convicted Panyanouvong of the first-degree murder of Choi Ian Saeteurn.

On January 15, 2015, Panyanouvong was arrested for a parole violation and resisting arrest.  Panyanouvong was in custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail and shared a cell with 68-year-old Choi Ian Saeteurn.  On January 16, 2015, Panyanouvong beat his cellmate, Saeteurn, to death while the two were in their cell. 

Panyanouvong has a prior 2005 strike conviction for first-degree burglary.
