CASE: Walter Kotko
PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Morgan Gire
District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert announced today that the Honorable Russell Hom sentenced Walter Kotko to 290 years to life in prison. On May 27, 2015, a jury convicted Kotko of committing sexual intercourse, sodomy, sexual penetration and oral copulation against a child under the age of 10, committing a lewd and lascivious act on a child under the age of 14, and a multiple victim enhancement.
Kotko began molesting a female family member in 2005 when she was 8 years old. When the victim was 10, her mother found her crying in the bathroom. The mother began asking her questions and the victim disclosed that Kotko had been sexually assaulting her. The police were called and Kotko was arrested.
After this case was filed, it was discovered Kotko’s former neighbor reported having been molested by Kotko between 1994 and 1998 when she was between the ages of 9 and 12. The case was investigated, but never prosecuted. The details of the molestations were similar and the victims had never met or known of the other’s allegations. Charges were added against Kotko for the earlier molestation victim.
