CASE: Robert Bonnard
PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Valerie Brown, Homicide Unit
District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert announced that 33-year-old Robert Bonnard pled guilty to second-degree murder.
On August 27, 2012, Bonnard became enraged when he thought his 8-year-old son was putting his shoes on too slow. He beat his son in front of his 9-year-old daughter. Bonnard slammed his son’s head against a wall and floor until the child was unconscious. When his wife returned home, Bonnard lied and claimed their son was suffering from a sudden seizure. The child was taken to UC Davis Medical Center and put on life support. He never regained consciousness and was declared deceased on September 5, 2012.
Bonnard faces a potential maximum sentence of 15 years to life in prison. Sentencing is set for August 14, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in Department 17 before the Honorable Ernest Sawtelle.
