CASE: Ruben Guajardo & Gino Taylor
PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney William Satchell, Homicide Unit
District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert announced that the Honorable Sharon Lueras sentenced Ruben Guajardo to 75 years to life in prison and Gino Taylor to 26 years to life in prison. On May 28, 2015, a jury convicted Guajardo and Taylor of the first-degree murder of Victor Aranda. The jury also found that Guajardo personally used a firearm causing death.
On January 25, 2014, Taylor approached Victor Aranda, who was with friends in the front yard of a residence. Taylor asked Mr. Aranda to step onto the sidewalk away from his friends so that they could speak privately. When Mr. Aranda left the yard, Taylor’s cousin, Guajardo, ran up and shot him four times, killing him. Detectives from the Sacramento Police Department located a contentious exchange between the victim and Taylor on Instagram regarding a debt the victim allegedly owed to Taylor.
