CASE: Kenneth Barnette
PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Kevin Greene, Homicide Unit
District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert announced today that the Honorable Shelleyanne Chang sentenced Kenneth Barnette to 82 years to life in prison. On June 5, 2015, a jury convicted Barnette of first-degree murder, premeditated attempted murder and discharging a firearm at an occupied vehicle. The jury also found true allegations that Barnette personally discharged a firearm and personally discharged a firearm causing death.
On June 13, 2013, Barnette was in his vehicle waiting for an available gas pump at the AM/PM on Mack Road. When another vehicle drove toward an available pump, Barnette drove toward the same pump and blocked it from moving. A passenger of that vehicle, Darryl Hill, got out and asked Barnette to move his car. Barnette then got out of his car and started shooting, killing Mr. Hill and injuring the driver and another passenger in their car.
