CASE: Ruben Guajardo & Gino Taylor
PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney William Satchell, Homicide Unit
District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert announced that Ruben Guajardo and his cousin, Gino Taylor, were both convicted by jury of first-degree murder. The jury also found true that Guajardo personally discharged a firearm causing death.
On January 25, 2014, Taylor approached Victor Aranda, who was with friends in the front yard of a residence. Taylor asked Mr. Aranda to step onto the sidewalk away from his friends so they could speak privately. When Mr. Aranda left the yard, Guajardo ran up and shot him four times, killing him. Detectives from the Sacramento Police Department located a contentious exchange between the victim and Taylor on Instagram regarding a debt the victim allegedly owed to Taylor.
Guajardo faces a maximum potential sentence of 75 years to life in prison. Taylor faces a maximum potential sentence of 26 years to life in prison. Both defendants will be sentenced on July 17, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. in Department 38 before the Honorable Sharon Lueras.
