CASE: Devon Nelson
PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Kristen Ilharreguy, Targeting Armed Recidivist Gangsters Enforcement Team (TARGET)
District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert announced that Devon Nelson, a validated Oak Park Blood gang member, was convicted by jury of possession of ammunition.
On July 4, 2014, multiple shots were fired by multiple shooters at the intersection of El Camino and Howe Avenue. An unidentified victim fled the scene after being shot at and physically assaulted. A vehicle matching the description of one of the possible shooters was located close to the crime scene. Nelson was the right front passenger in that vehicle. When an officer approached the car, Nelson and an unidentified driver fled on foot. When Nelson fled, he discarded a 9mm magazine with six live rounds in it. Nelson was caught within minutes of fleeing.
At the time of this offense, Nelson was on felony probation for committing an assault with a firearm for the benefit of a criminal street gang.
Nelson faces a maximum potential sentence of 10 years, 8 months in state prison. Sentencing is set for May 8, 2015 in Department 26 before the Honorable Curtis Fiorini.
