CASE: Craig White
PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Kelly Jobe, Special Investigations & Public Integrity Unit
District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert announced today that Craig White (31) pled no contest to two counts of first-degree burglary.
White was a firefighter with the Sacramento City Fire Department. On December 5, 2014, while off duty, he dressed in his Sacramento City Fire Department uniform with his badge and went to seven different residences in Sacramento County. In each instance, he specifically targeted elderly victims with the intent to enter their homes to steal prescription opiates. He identified himself to the residents as a government official who was there to conduct fire safety inspections of their residences; however, he did not conduct any inspections. Instead, once inside, he asked the victims if he could use their bathrooms so he could search for prescription medications. He stole prescription medications from two of the victims.
Pursuant to the plea agreement, White will be sentenced to 4 years in state prison. That sentence will be suspended while he serves 1 year in the county jail and is placed on 5 years of formal probation. He will also be ordered to attend drug rehabilitation and pay victim restitution. Sentencing is set for April 28, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. in Department 61 before the Honorable Jaime Roman.
