CASE: Yanqun Tan
PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney William Satchell, Homicide Unit
District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert announced that Yanqun Tan was convicted by jury of voluntary manslaughter.
On October 22, 2012, Tan walked into the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Central Division Station and reported that she wanted to turn herself in because she had killed her boyfriend. The Sacramento Police Department responded to Tan’s residence to find 55-year-old Ruji Fang’s body wrapped in plastic.
At trial, Tan testified she suffered emotional, physical and sexual abuse at the hands of Fang, and that he was attempting to rape her when she killed him in self-defense.
Tan faces a potential maximum sentence of 11 years in prison. Sentencing is set for April 24, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in Department 16 before the Honorable Marjorie Koller.
