CASE: Tyrone Copeland & Lyssa Guadianna
PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Alan Hengel, Insurance Fraud Unit
District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert announced today that Tyrone Copeland (35) and his wife Lyssa Guadianna (36) of Sacramento were sentenced following their no contest pleas to felony insurance fraud. The Honorable Laurel White ordered Copeland to serve 210 days and Guadianna to serve 180 days in the county jail, and placed both defendants on five years formal probation. Both were also ordered to pay $3,353.86 in restitution.
On January 26, 2014, Copeland and Guadianna arranged for a third party to rent and insure a U-Haul truck. After obtaining the truck, Copeland purposefully drove the truck into the right front passenger door of his wife’s parked and unoccupied Lexus.
Guadianna then filed an insurance claim with U-Haul’s insurance carrier, Repwest Insurance, asserting the body damages to her Lexus were from a legitimate accident. The insurance company denied the claim after determining the January 26, 2014 collision was a staged accident and the insurance policy issued by Repwest did not cover damages to other vehicles.
