PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Caroline Park, Homicide Unit
District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert announced today that the Honorable Russell Hom sentenced Patrick Godines, Travis Mabson and Patrick McPherson to life in prison without the possibility of parole. On November 24, 2014, a jury convicted all three defendants of first-degree murder with special circumstances findings of attempted robbery and residential burglary. The jury also found true a firearm use allegation against Godines.
Godines received an additional 25 years to life for the firearm use allegation and 5 years due to a prior strike conviction. Mabson received an additional 10 years due to two prior strike convictions.
On July 29, 2011, sheriff’s deputies responded to calls of a shooting at an apartment complex on Manzanita Avenue. When deputies arrived, they found Michael Sanderson with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Mr. Sanderson died from his injuries. The facts at trial showed the defendants robbed Mr. Sanderson and then shot him.
