CASE: Samuel Culverson

Samuel Culverson was convicted by jury of robbery. The jury also found true a personal use of a firearm allegation.
On May 25, 2015, Culverson entered Discount Cigarettes on Gerber Road and asked to purchase cigarettes. While the victim was distracted, Culverson went around the counter and pointed a gun at him. He then forced the victim to open the cash register and lay face down on the floor. Culverson took approximately $700 from the register and threatened to shoot another employee as he fled. Using surveillance video, law enforcement officers were able to locate and arrest Culverson two days later.
Culverson is a three striker. His prior convictions include second-degree murder, robbery with use of a deadly weapon, and attempted robbery from the state of Nevada.
Culverson faces a sentence of 55 years to life in prison. Sentencing is set for January 22, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. in Department 15 before the Honorable Kevin McCormick.
