District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert announced today that Ugend Prasad was sentenced to 365 days in the county jail and 5 years formal probation. On November 21, 2014, Prasad pled no contest to two felony violations of insurance fraud.
Between August 2009 and April 2012, Prasad submitted six false reports to his auto insurance carriers claiming his vehicle had been vandalized or stolen. As a result of these false claims, the California State Automobile Association, State Farm and Highlands Insurance paid Prasad a total of $32,479.29.
This case was investigated by the Sacramento County Auto Theft Task Force and detectives from the California Department of Insurance Urban Auto Fraud Unit. This case was prosecuted by the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Urban Auto Fraud Unit.
