Ex-Fugitive Convicted of Multiple Child Sexual Assault Charges

Thirty-seven-year-old Mike Chavez was convicted by jury of 12 counts of committing lewd and lascivious acts by use of force/fear on a child under 14 years of age.

Chavez sexually assaulted two female family members.  In May 2006, when the victims were 9 and 10 years old, they disclosed that Chavez had been sexually abusing them.  When the police were notified, Chavez fled to Mexico and lived there for several years.   The FBI found Chavez and brought him back to the United States in December 2012.

Chavez faces a sentence of 120 years in prison.  Sentencing is set for January 15, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. in Department 10 before the Honorable Eugene Balonon.
