CASE: Raymond Chavez
PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Bruce Chang, Special Assault & Child Abuse Unit
Fifty-year-old Raymond Chavez was convicted by jury of child molest, 18 counts of child molest by force/fear, and four counts of oral copulation with a child 10 years or younger.
Chavez molested a 10-year-old female relative from approximately 2006 to 2012. The abuse started when the victim was about 6 years old, and took place in both Fresno and Sacramento counties. He threatened that if she told anyone no one would believe her and she would be taken away from her family. The victim suffered in silence for many years, until she found the courage to tell someone during a camping trip in 2014.
Chavez faces more than 150 years to life in prison. Sentencing is set for January 8, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. in Department 41 before the Honorable Helena Gweon.
