Fifty-four-year-old John Matta was convicted by jury of the first-degree murder of his mother.
On May 18, 2014, John Matta killed 75-year-old Janet Matta in their Antelope home. Matta beat and choked his mother to death. She died from blunt force trauma and asphyxiation. John Matta had a documented history of elder abuse against his mother.
Matta faces a sentence of 25 years to life in prison. Sentencing is set for November 17, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. in Department 39 before the Honorable David Abbott.
