As Surrell was leaving the bank, he ordered another bank employee to go into the back room before fleeing with approximately $975. On April 9, 2016, Surrell entered a Walgreens in Antelope, pointed a gun at an employee and ordered the victim to give him money from the store safe. Surrell fled the store with approximately $4,500. On April 22, 2016, Surrell entered a Walgreens in North Highlands. He again pointed a gun at an employee and ordered the victim to give him money from the store safe. Surrell fled the store with approximately $4,500.
Surrell will be sentenced under California’s Three Strikes Law and faces a maximum sentence of 120 years to life in prison. Sentencing is set for June 21, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. in Department 36 before the Honorable Stephen Acquisto.
