Teen Partygoer Convicted of Raping Unconscious 16-Year-Old Girl

DATE: September 4, 2015

CASE:  Enrique Calles

PROSECUTOR:  Deputy District Attorney Omar Singh, Adult Sexual Assault Prosecution Unit

District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert announced today that 19-year-old Enrique Calles was convicted by jury of rape of an intoxicated person, rape of an unconscious person, and annoying or molesting a child.

On May 4, 2015, the 16-year-old victim attended a house party in Galt. As the night went on, she became increasingly intoxicated. Calles helped her to an upstairs bedroom for her to sleep for the night.  He returned to the room a short time later and had sex with the victim while she was unconscious. She was found a short time later by her friends, and was described as appearing to be dead, or near dead, and barely breathing.  The victim remembered the distinct voice and words used by Calles, and his DNA was left on her neck during the sexual assault.

Calles faces a maximum potential sentence of 8 years in prison.  Sentencing is set for October 19, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. in Department 44 before the Honorable Christopher Kreuger.
