13-Year-Old Girl Found in Dugout

Twenty-five-year-old Ryan Roberts was convicted by jury of first-degree murder.  The jury also found true a use of knife enhancement. 

Thirteen-year-old Jessica Funk-Haslam was murdered in a dugout of a baseball field in the Rosemont Community Park in March 2012.  DNA consistent with Roberts’ genetic profile was found on eight cigarette butts found near Jessica’s body and on her belt.   

Roberts faces a maximum potential sentence of 26 years to life in prison.  Sentencing is set for October 23, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. in Department 36 by the Honorable Gerrit Wood. 

This case was investigated by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.
