Former Choir Director Pleads to Child Sexual Assault Charges

CASE:  Kareem Abdul Mitchell

PROSECUTOR:  Deputy District Attorney Allison Dunham, Special Assault & Child Abuse Unit

Forty-three-year-old Kareem Abdul Mitchell pled no contest to two counts of oral copulation with a person under 18 years old and one count of committing lewd & lascivious acts on a child.

Mitchell was a choir director for the New Testament Baptist Church.  During that time, he molested three male choir members between 2001 and 2012.

Pursuant to the plea agreement, Mitchell will be sentenced to 3 years state prison and will be required to register as a sex offender for life.  Sentencing is set for October 21, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. in Department 63 before the Honorable Michael Bowman.

This case was investigated by the Sacramento Police Department.
