Case of Interest: Phillip Raymond Hernandez

PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Chris Ore, Homicide Unit                     

District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert announced today that Phillip Raymond Hernandez was sentenced to 26 years to life in prison. On March 23, 2015, a jury convicted Hernandez of first-degree murder and the use of a weapon. 

On February 26, 2013, Hernandez went into the backyard of his home, grabbed a hatchet, broke through the sliding glass door and brutally attacked his 9-year-old son, Matthew Hernandez, who was sleeping on the couch.  The 9-year-old child died at the scene from blunt force trauma to the head.

Hernandez was found walking on the street soon after and was taken into custody by police.
