District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert announced today the launch of a formal office-wide Speakers Bureau.
The Speakers Bureau is under the umbrella of the office’s new Community & Government Relations (CGR) Unit, which was created to increase community engagement, maximize the office’s prevention and education outreach efforts and strengthen public trust.
The new program will match members of the District Attorney’s Office with community based organizations, businesses, industry associations, educational institutions, clubs, cultural and faith-based organizations, neighborhood associations and other groups requesting to learn more about various aspects of the criminal justice system. This will enable the office to expand its reach among diverse groups and have a greater positive impact across the county.
With more than 135 staff members volunteering for the program, speakers include all levels and areas of expertise – from District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert, the chief deputy and assistant chiefs to deputy district attorneys, criminalists, victim advocates, investigators and paralegals.
There are currently close to 30 available topics, including an overview of the criminal justice system, gangs and hate crimes, gun violence, elder and child abuse, domestic violence, sexual assaults, human trafficking, juvenile crime and prevention, truancy, consumer protection, insurance fraud, the crime lab and victim services. In addition, other topics not already identified can be requested for review and scheduling if a speaker can be matched with the subject matter.
“Our dedicated professionals are the faces and voices of this office, and I am extremely proud of the work they do,” said DA Anne Marie Schubert. “The Speakers Bureau will not only serve to help the public better understand who we are and how we work to protect public safety, it is also an excellent opportunity for members of the office to get to know the community we serve.”
Speaker requests can be submitted through an online request form, which asks for event details, topic, contact information and other pertinent information. The Speaker Request Form can be found on the homepage at www.sacda.org and under the “Community Relations” navigation tab. There is also a Speakers Bureau request message line at 916.875.2244.
The District Attorney’s Office will need a minimum of four weeks to schedule a speaker.
