Case of Interest: Marcel Williams

DATE: February 27, 2015

CASE: Marcel Williams

PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Aaron Miller, Career Criminal Prosecution Unit

District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert announced today that Marcel Williams was convicted by jury of second-degree robbery.  The jury also found that Williams, a validated Ridezilla criminal street gang member, personally used a firearm during the commission of the robbery.

On May 17, 2012, Williams and his brother entered a smoke shop in South Sacramento. Williams wore a wig and sunglasses, produced a small revolver, cocked it and pointed it at the victim while demanding money and the victim’s cell phone.  Williams and his brother fled the store on foot after the robbery.  Notwithstanding his disguise, the victim recognized Williams as a former customer.

Williams was on parole at the time of this crime for a prior residential burglary strike he suffered in 2008.  In May 2014, Williams was convicted of robbery with use of a firearm in Reno, Nevada.

Williams faces a maximum potential sentence of 26 years in prison.  Sentencing is set for March 20, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. in Department 31 before the Honorable Michael Kenny.
