Legal Research Assistants (Paid Position)   CLASS SPECS

Each year, usually in the fall, interviews are conducted for positions as LRAs. Applicants are usually law students in their final year of study, planning to take the State Bar exam in July. Successful applicants will be offered positions commencing approximately 1-2 weeks after the Bar exam. LRAs are assigned to various positions and units within the office including in-court assignments conducting arraignments, pretrial negotiations and calendar duties, as well as research and writing assignments to assist deputy district attorneys. LRAs who pass the Bar exam will then compete with other applicants for entry level attorney positions.

Although bar passage does not guarantee an attorney position for LRAs, most of these applicants have been offered attorney positions as openings become available.
