How does the community prosecutor
improve the quality of life in the community?
The Community Prosecution Unit conducts a number
of programs to improve the quality of life in Sacramento neighborhoods.
Those include the following:
Needs Assessment Survey
Now available online, this survey is
distributed at community meetings and through the Neighborhood Watch
Program. The survey is a useful opportunity for the community to voice
their concerns regarding the quality-of-life issues in their local communities,
so that our community prosecution attorneys can respond to these neighborhood
issues.
Landlord Survey
This survey enables the community prosecution attorney to gain insight
into the needs of landlords. This survey is helping the unit to determine
what kind of help he or she can give to local-area landlords who may
be unaware of resources and information that are available.
Sacramento Rental Housing Improvement Partnership
(SHRIP)
Code enforcement, law enforcement, District Attorney and Human Rights
and Fair Housing regularly meet to discuss what landlords can do to
screen for better tenants, so that their property can be a safer environment.
Agencies participate regularly in this low-cost
training for rental property owners within Sacramento County.
Landlord Deferred Entry of Judgment Program
This program arose out of the need to hold irresponsible landlords
accountable for the nuisances that are created by their properties and
the tenants that they allow in. By entering a "no contest"
plea to a criminal complaint that is filed, sentencing for the landlord
is deferred in order that they may successfully complete a Landlord
Training program and any other reasonably related conditions. If they
complete all of the imposed conditions, then at sentencing, the case
is dismissed in the interest of justice.
Nuisance Response Team (NRT)
The Nuisance Response Team is a monthly collaboration between a
number of agencies, including: Adult Services, Animal Care and Regulations,
Building Inspections, Business Licensing, Children Services, Code Enforcement,
Environmental Health, Human Assistance, Housing and Urban Development,
Probation, Public Works, Sacramento Mediation Center, Sacramento Metro
Fire, SHRA, State Dept. of Housing and Community Development, State
Dept. of Industrial Relations Labor Standards Enforcement, State Fish
and Game, State of CA Emp. Enforcement Task Force.
Agencies discuss issues regarding nuisance abatement
in Sacramento County. The general purpose of this collaboration is to
keep agencies informed of what each other is doing, so that these separate
agencies can more closely work and respond together.

Agencies involved on this team are: Business Licenses, Code Enforcement,
County Counsel, County PIO, CUBS, District Attorney, District Engineering,
EMD, Public Works, SSD, Transportation, and Waste Mgt/Rec.
