What is "Community Prosecution"?

Community prosecution focuses on targeted areas and involves a long-term, proactive partnership between the prosecutor's office, law enforcement, the community, and public and private organizations. The fundamental tenet of the Community Prosecution Unit is to use the authority of the District Attorney's office to solve community problems, provide public safety and enhance the community's quality of life.

The community prosecutor steps outside the traditional deputy district attorney role in that he or she, rather than reacting to a crime after it happens, will work with a target community to prevent crime. Community prosecutors look beyond individual cases to broader public safety problems that have a negative impact on the quality of life in the target community, and coordinating the solution with local law enforcement and the community at large.
