District Attorney Youth Academy

The District Attorney Youth Academy is a program in partnership with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, Sacramento Police Department, Sacramento County Probation Department, Sacramento County Public Defender's Office, Rancho Cordova Police Department, Elk Grove Police Department and Galt Police Department.

Students actively learn about the criminal justice system, hear from our criminal justice partners, and engage in open communication between law enforcement and themselves concerning issues that affect youth today. Students are also educated on such topics as gangs, social media, and distracted driving.  A career fair will be held at graduation.

Topics include: 

  • Anatomy of a Criminal Case
  • Law Enforcement Use of Force
  • Marijuana & the Law
  • Law Enforcement & Community Relationships
  • Laboratory of Forensic Science
  • Crime Scene Investigation (CSI)
  • Human Trafficking
  • Dating Violence & Stalking

Classes will be held twice a month in the evenings from 6:00 p.m. -  8:00 p.m. at FOUR locations on different days of the week:

SOUTH AREA: Thursdays - September 26, 2019—April 2, 2020 ~ Sacramento County Sheriff’s Community Service Center (7000  65th Street, Sacramento 95823 ) 

NORTH AREA: Tuesdays - September 17, 2019 – March 10, 2020 ~ Trinity Life Center (5225 Hillsdale Blvd., Sacramento 95842) 

EAST AREA: Wednesdays – September 18, 2019—March 11, 2020  ~ Rancho Cordova City Hall (2729 Prospect Park Drive, Rancho Cordova 95670)  

ELK GROVE/GALT AREA: Mondays - September 23, 2019 – April 6, 2020  ~ Elk Grove City Council Chambers (8400 Laguna Palms Way, Elk Grove 95758)  

*An optional one day field trip is scheduled to tour the Sacramento Superior Court

The program is open to current Sacramento County high school students.  Eligible students can apply for either the South, North, East or Elk Grove/Galt area academy.  They must submit a completed application, signed permission slip and signed Code of Conduct agreement.  Space is limited and on a first come, first served basis.
