District Attorney Jan Scully and her Multi-Cultural Council (MCC) organized the First Annual Law Enforcement & Community Breakfast on May 25, 2000 to take time for prayer, reflection, and thanksgiving for Sacramento's law enforcement community and the citizens they serve. In May of 2002, the name was changed to the Public Safety & Community Appreciation Breakfast. This annual event is a wonderful opportunity for citizens to express appreciation for law enforcement officers, prosecutors, probation officers, fire fighters and others who work so hard to make our region safe. By the same token, law enforcement uses this occasion to thank Sacramento citizens for their support and recommit ourselves to continue to build stronger relationships and partnerships with the communities in which they serve. The breakfast is also a time to honor the families of fallen officers of the Sacramento Region who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their communities. Scully and the MCC are joined in this
effort by an event committee made up of members from various public
safety agencies and local businesses; the Sheriff’s Department; the
Sacramento Police Department; the Probation Department, the California
Highway Patrol, Law Enforcement Chaplaincy, the Sacramento Metropolitan
Fire District, the Sacramento Area Fire Chaplaincy, and a host of
additional law enforcement associations. Bagpiper Chief Investigator Steve McKinney Mutual Honor Guard Host Sacramento County District Attorney Jan Scully Retired Sacramento Police Chief Albert Nájera
