The Sacramento District Attorney’s Office and the
Elk Grove Police Department have joined forces to bring the teen driving
safety program, "Driving It Home." Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Speed is the #1 killer for drivers under the age
of 20. Each year, Sacramento County loses teens to speed, recklessness, and
distractions while driving. This teen safety program carries the message of
making wise driving choices, realizing the consequences of poor driving
decisions, and riding with poor drivers. The presentation features graphic
video, audience involvement with questions and answers, and the actual
wrecked vehicle of an Elk Grove boy who recently died as a result of his
injuries.
Driving It Home is presented to Sacramento County high schools, youth groups, service clubs, and community organizations.
The program has received statewide awards,
recognition, and has been featured in many newspaper articles and numerous
television interviews. The hundreds of letters received from teens tells us
the program changes teen’s perspective on driving or riding in a car.
