The Adult Sexual Assault Prosecution Unit (ASAP) is comprised of attorneys responsible for the prosecution of sexual offenses involving victims 14 years and older. Most of the cases involve forcible sexual assaults. Two attorneys are grant-funded and prosecute all "statutory rape" cases. The ASAP Unit works with the county's Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), which is comprised of nurse practitioners and physicians' assistants from UCD Medical Center who are specially trained in the collection of sexual assault evidence, local law enforcement agencies, and counselors from WEAVE, a community rape crisis center.
